Who are we & What we do
Justice Leaders’ Council is a student-led organization which seeks to provide students with unique opportunities to engage in human rights advocacy and service for the asylum seeker & refugee community. Currently, in its third year, we have formed a coalition of students from across Hong Kong in schools of both local and international curricula. We hope to promote students’ overall holistic development by enhancing their critical thinking, speaking and social skills.
Our objectives are as follows :
1. To delve into understanding various human rights issues in Hong Kong, namely asylum protections, human trafficking and forced labour of migrant workers.
2. To enhance public awareness of the dire situation faced by asylum-seekers in Hong Kong, including lack of necessary resources, deprivation of their right to work to sustain their living.
3. To provide unique opportunities for passionate Hong Kong students to broaden their horizons on contemporary topics such as current international human rights framework, development of asylum law in Hong Kong and human rights advocacy in China, etc.
As the first student organisation to advocate for rights of asylum-seekers in Hong Kong, we aim to provide valuable opportunities for its members to participate in various student-driven school projects and joint-school events. Apart from that, JLC also offers legal workshops and site visits to its participants, in the hope of broadening their views. Volunteering opportunities will also be provided for members to contribute to society through service and action. Ultimately, we hope to nurture leaders of tomorrow by providing them a platform to understand and be engaged in advocating for local human rights issues.
