Communications director
Rishima Mathur | Discovery College
Rishima is a Y12 student at Discovery College and is one of the content designers and Communications Director for JLC. She has had the privilege of being a Community Engagement captain at school, a Higher Education Ambassador and is involved with the school UNICEF club. Taking part in these activities has only furthered her passion for service and to raise awareness about inequality and other issues in Hong Kong.
She hopes to combine her love for arts and design with the skills she has developed through her community service activities and has no doubt that her enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and collaborate will dictate her time at JLC. In her free time, she can be found either at the school art studio preparing for competitions, playing the piano or discovering HK! |

Jocelyn Cheng | Chinese International School
Jocelyn is the current operations officer for the JLC. Through working with Branches of Hope and the Global Issues Network, she’s gained a passion for human rights advocacy. She believes that freedom of speech and security are fundamental rights each human should be given access to. Jocelyn hopes that the Justice Leaders Council can make a positive impact on the community, and assist in dissolving the prejudice Hong Kong has formed against refugees. At school, she is involved in various publications and service groups that allow her to be a supportive member of the JLC. Her long-term personal goal is to enter a career that will allow her to make a positive impact on individuals or society as a whole.

Elysia Tsang | Sha Tin College
Elysia is a Year 12 student from Sha Tin College and is currently the Public Relations Manager for JLC. She's responsible for liaising and building strong relationships with partnering organisations and communications between other individuals such as guest speakers. After doing much social work around Hong Kong she's developed a great passion for human rights advocacy. By joining JLC, Elysia hopes to bring about positive change that would be beneficial to this area of the community and raise awareness to these neglected issues that surround our daily lives.

Alina Abramenko | Boston University & Trinity College Dublin
Alina Abramenko is a firm believer in the collective power of people. She has her Bachelor Degree in International Relations. She is pursuing her Master Degree in International Politics at Trinity College Dublin and Master Degree of Science in Criminal Justice at Boston University.
She has been devoting her life to being a part of making a difference for the sake of society. Over the last 5 years, she has been fortunate enough to have been chosen to contribute her knowledge and her skill sets and teach English to different communities all over the world: Russia, USA, Germany, Italy, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Cameroon. Alina Abramenko has completed her service for The Open University of Hong Kong. She was a Quality Education Officer and a Cultural Ambassador of Russian Federation, and she was happy to expose her culture and new ideas to the generation of young leaders shaping their mindset. Her education mission to Hong Kong was to transform youth understanding about global issues and build cultural bridges not only between the countries but also between the cultures. As an officer and ambassador, she was grateful to deliver education to young people. At present, Alina Abramenko serves as an International Outreach Manager at Justice Leaders’ Council. Also, she is a volunteer mentor at the Alliance for International Women’s Rights in the USA and Afghanistan, mentoring Afghan future women leaders by teaching English as well as improving students’ public speaking skills. She strongly believes that all lives matter, and she wants to look for justice in cases where it was ignored. That is why she is engaged as a team coordinator of an Advocacy team of AGE Network based in Nigeria where the core purpose is to pursue social justice for women and as a team leader of Secretary General office of SODEIT (Social Development International) based in Cameroon where she helps people who were neglected and were affected by xenophobia. She truly believes in our capacity to shape a future where no child is held back or left behind, no women are abused, no Africans or Muslims are discriminated against. |

Deborah Chen | Chinese International School
Deborah is the project coordinator for Justice Leaders' Council's mentorship scheme, where she manages all administrative and logistical matters while working closely with the Directors General. She communicates and maintains a strong relationship with partnering organisations and individuals that are involved in the project. She has experience servicing and fundraising in non-profit organisations, developing a passion for human right causes and advocating. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports and working on art pieces.

Megan Hsu | Chinese International School
Megan coordinates and manages the logistics of Justice Leader’s mentorship scheme. Through her ongoing experience in service opportunities with non-profit organisations and student-led groups, Megan is passionate about the intersection of human rights, sustainability and social responsibility. Megan is a firm believer in the importance of student advocacy. She hopes to inspire youth agency and engagement to raise awareness of the human rights issue through public education and social service. Megan aspires that leading the Justice Leader’s Council will give her the opportunity to build quantifiable social change, by fostering a sense of urgency, inclusion and impact in her local community.

Vania Chow | Li Po Chun United World College
Vania is the current project leader for the student panel initiative that is conducted in partnership with Branches of Hope. She has been actively involved in the refugee and asylum seeker community locally in many ways, such as leading fundraisers, campaigns, and volunteering regularly. Personally, Vania is extremely interested in learning about cultural relations, migration, and the effect of these facets on different societal groups. Her current engagement with the community has definitely inspired and motivated her to continue exploring these ideas. Vania looks forward to leading these student panels and hopes that they will be impactful.

Illeana Li | Chinese International School
Illeana is the Webinar Project Leader of the Justice Leaders' Council. She leads and performs administrative tasks for the JLC Webinar Series; a series of online events focusing on human rights advocacy, aiming to educate secondary school students.
As a strong believer in student voice and advocacy, Illeana is enthusiastic about researching and raising awareness of human rights issues, locally and internationally. This has taken the form of initiating events to support the minorities of Hong Kong, leading school-based societies revolving around human rights and current affairs and other approaches. She hopes that by advocating and practising the power of student initiative through her position at JLC, she is able to spread greater awareness of the realities asylum seekers and refugees face in Hong Kong; and hence, create a meaningful impact in combating the injustices faced by Hong Kong's minorities. The sickening treatment of asylum seekers and refugees has been neglected in Hong Kong for far too long, Illeana is excited for the Webinar Series and all of JLC’s other initiatives to address these issues head-on. |

Ema Poposka | Renaissance College
Ema is a student at Renaissance College and serves as the Webinar Series Deputy Project Leader. After being an active member of JLC, she is excited to be joining the Project Leaders team this year and is eager to work with and learn from her fellow JLC members. She has participated in Model United Nations conferences discussing the rights of refugees and migrants which have strengthened her dedication to raising awareness about the inequality the refugees are faced with around the world and in Hong Kong. You can read her articles at the RCHK Truth magazine. She hopes to create a vibrant webinar series for secondary students in Hong Kong, both educational and inspiring. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports, learning new languages, and singing.

Hayley Yeung | German Swiss International School
As the Newsletter Project Leader, Hayley plans and oversees the publication of JLC’s monthly newsletter. She hopes to reach a wider audience and inform them about JLC’s mission and actions while also ensuring the longevity and smooth running of the newsletter.
Outside of JLC, Hayley is an aspiring journalist and avid MUNer who is involved in various publications such as The Radical and ISSIA. She is also a weekly volunteer at NGOs such as Branches of Hope where her interactions with the refugee and asylum seeker community in Hong Kong has led her to join JLC in an attempt to make a meaningful impact on the community. She looks forward to a productive year of advocacy, education and hands-on action to further JLC’s cause. |

Sophia Zhang | Sha Tin College
Sophia is a Year 12 student at Sha Tin College and she is delighted to be serving as Project Leader for the writing workshops. Through this project, she aims to combine her passion for human rights, community service and writing to aid the underprivileged. She hopes that leading the JLC will give her the valuable opportunity to enact positive change in order to support asylum seekers in Hong Kong. Outside of JLC, Sophia has also volunteered with other NGOs and holds a number of leadership roles at school. Sophia looks forward to a fruitful year ahead!

Shriya Srinivasan | Renaissance College Hong Kong
Shriya Srinivasan is currently a Year 10 student at Renaissance College Hong Kong. An avid debater and MUN-er, she is deeply passionate about writing- in all kinds of formats. She loves all things creative; painting, design studies and technology. She is also an ardent fan of the life sciences and its applications. In her free time, she loves reading books about behaviour and ethology, cooking and baking, spending time with her dog(Mowgli), but most importantly, watching Netflix.
